CLASS TIME !!

Welcome to our section to teach a little about the different things to consider when ordering and designing windows for your house. Your builder will take care of the technical stuff but what matters most is how these windows are going to make you feel when you wake up in the morning, or sit having breakfast with your family. This section is dedicated to helping you learn a little about glass options, frame types and design considerations to help you have a house that feels like home

Design considerations

When deciding on which product to use think about if you want light, breeze, privacy or a combination of all three.  The other major factor is if you live in a cold or warm climate.

If you live in a hot climate , larger opening sizes THAT GO UP TO THE ROOF help a lot to get the heat out of a house quickly.  It makes no sense to stop the window 300mm below ceiling height as it TRAPS THE HEAT IN!  The old style queensland houses recognised this with louver windows over the internal doors inside the house to encourage breeze flow.  THIS IS WHY OUR STANDARD FRAMES GO UP TO 2.7M in size. It not only looks great but helps substantially in getting the hot air out fast.

If you live in a colder climate stop the glazing 300mm from the ceiling to create a space where warm air can be trapped. If glazing up to ceiling is desirable in colder climates using a low e glass is recommended to ensure heat loss is minimal.

Awning windows

Awning windows  are great in  situations where you want to be able to open the window but due to its location its exposed to rain/ wind so a sliding window is not desirable. They are also used in bathroom where privacy is important so the glass can be heavily tinted or obscured thus giving privacy and being openable.

Fixed panel

Fixed panel windows are great to use when you want to bring light into an area but do not need to be able to open to allow air flow. This type of window is the most economical to install and can be made up to xxx in size with our standard frame.

bi-fold doors / windows

Theses type of products are great when you want to provide unobstructed opening to the outside. These doors fold back to completely open up the space. Usually designed to be in odd number of panels to allow them to fold back easily they are perfect for climates that have average temperatures of 20-28 degrees. Because they fold back you get the full benefit of the opening. The max panel size is usually 800-900 and here at frog glazing we can go as high as 2.7m and as wide as 5m with our standard frame.

sliding doors/windows

These type of windows/ doors are useful when you are looking for a cost effective way to create an opening with larger expanses of unbroken glass. They are cheaper than bifolds and can incorporate fixed panels and movable panels together. The down side of these windows is that only a maximum of half of the space can be opened at any time, though they make up for it with being able to have larger expanses of unbroken glass.
